2018 – Museum Ships Weekend 2nd and 3rd June
Ham stations worked a wide variety of museum ships that include submarines, aircraft carriers, battleships, there is a Civil War Ironclad Gunboat and a concrete hulled merchant ship from WW1 to name but a few in this ‘on air flotilla.’
The Rockhampton and District Amateur Radio operated call sign VK4GLA from HMAS Gladstone during the International Museum Ships Weekend 2-3 June
We operated the club station from the museum ship on Saturday and Sunday using the ships vertical antennas and Kenwood TS590S, we also had one of the ships receivers which was working well on the day and working on getting the ships transmitters going very soon as well.
HMAS Gladstone was the only registered ship in Australia taking part.
2018 – Nick VK4PLN QRP Kit Transceivers Show and Tell Night
Nick PLN’s show and tell was a winner. It was a gather round the table with the gear and a discussion about it. Nick brought along:-
- A uBITX (micro bitx), a SSB/CW 10W all band radio is from http://www.hfsignals.com/ also more info at http://ubitx.net/ ($109). This was a fully built PC board which he had put in a case along with a number modifications/improvements he has made himself. He is member of an online forum dedicated to this particular rig.
- Two QCX, a CW only 5W single bander (80-17) is from https://qrp-labs.com/qcx.html ($49). This is a kit with a PC board and all components which he had assembled and mounted in a suitable case he found on eBay.
Congratulations Nick, an inspiring bit of sharing the gear you personally built. It would be great to see our club do more things like this. Those who weren’t there missed something really interesting.
